ASHOK VAJPEYI, a Hindi poet-critic and culture-activist, a major cultural figure of India. With more than 15 books of poetry, 10 of criticism in Hindi and 4 books on art in English to his credit, widely recognised as an outstanding promoter of culture and an innovative institution-builder. Has been awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award, the Dayawati Kavi Shekhar Samman, Kabir Samman and D.Lit. (honoris causa) by the Central University of Hyderabad and ITM University, Gwalior. Has been decorated by the President of Republic of Poland by the outstanding national award ‘The Officer’s Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland’ and the French Govt. by the award of ‘Officier De L’Ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres’. Has been the founder of Bharat Bhavan multiarts complex Bhopal, first Vice Chancellor Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University and Chairman Lalit Kala Akademi. Presently, Managing Trustee, the Raza Foundation, New Delhi.
