A social entrepreneur by passion and a management strategist and consultant by profession, Santanu Mishra quit his corporate career in 2005 to head Smile Foundation, a voluntary organisation that helps poor, downtrodden population of India to achieve great public services by effective management of corporate social responsibility funds. Because of his innovative approach to social entrepreneurship, Smile Foundation has been able to mobilise and invest over Rs. 400 Crore in education, healthcare, livelihood, and community engagement across India by accumulating funds contributed by companies such as Google, Microsoft, and Phillips etc and with the effort of hundreds of volunteers. Smile Foundation has a special consultative status with the United Nation’s Economic & Social Council, and has won over 30 awards and recognitions worldwide.
Santanu is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Management – Ahmedabad, an Associate Member of Institute of Company Secretaries of India, and a qualified lawyer. Smile Foundation works on the subjects of education, healthcare, livelihood and women empowerment through 185 projects operational across 25 states in India. He comes from a background where volunteerism comes naturally from school days. So doing social good in one or other way always remain in the back of the mind. At present, Smile Foundation has 74 Mission Education projects functional across India.
